Lil Somethin' On The Side

These are just some things I did for fun recently. The first's drawn from the cap of a beer that's brewed locally in my hometown, the second of a friend of mine, and the third are some of the silhouettes of downtown San Jose.

These are quick gestural figures drawn from one or two minute nude poses. For those who of you don't know, figure drawing is the art of drawing the guessed it! Figure! Haha anyways, the life of a figure is in the gesture, or the motion of the pose.

This is the first thing that should be laid down and then if there's time build on top of it. No matter how good the rendering and shading of a figure drawing, without a good underlying gesture the drawing will ultimately fall flat.

Location Studies

To kick off the content I present a batch of location studies from ANI 28 last semester. Drawn from various spots around San Jose, this was the first time I genuinely enjoyed utilizing the laws of perspective. I also appreciated the ballpoint pen I was drawing with; using lighter lines as lay in and then going over them with heavy strokes for the final.
